Hasan Mandal (Prof. Dr.) received his BSc from Middle East Technical University (Turkey) in 1987 and PhD from University of Newcastle (UK) in 1992. In the period of 2007-2008, Dr. Mandal was at Karlsruhe University as Alexander von Humboldt Fellow.
In 1996, he joined the Department of Ceramic Engineering at Anadolu University. He became the Head of Department (1999), Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (2004), Vice Rector of Anadolu University (2010), Vice President and Director of Research and Graduate Policies at Sabanci University Istanbul (2011-2015), Executive Board Member and also Deputy President of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE, 2015-2018).
He also served as a Board Member in Gebze Technopark (2011-2015), Inovent (2011-2015), Vice President of University-Industry Collaboration Centers Platform (USIMP, 2013-2015), Board Member of TUBITAK – TTO Group (2012-2015), Chairperson of Turkish Engineering Deans Council (2006-2010), Chairperson of Global Engineering Deans Council (2009-2010), First Vice President of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (2009-2011) and President of European Ceramic Society (ECerS, 2009-2011).
He has co-authored over a hundred publications and six patents. As a result of these achievements, he was honored by twenty awards including TUBITAK Science Award (2005) and ECerS Stuijts Award (2005). He is a full member of Turkish Academy of Sciences, World Academy of Ceramics, Academia Europaea (Academy of Europe) and he is also a fellow of ECerS.
He is currently serving as the Acting President of Sabancı University, Board Member of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), BFUG Member for Turkey and EUA Representative for CoHE.
K. Ozgur Demirtas is a Chair Professor of Finance at the Sabanci University, Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Demirtas received his BS degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul. He received his Ph.D. in Finance degree from Boston College in 2003. In the same year, he was appointed as a tenure-track assistant professor at Baruch College, City University of New York. In 2003, he earned the best teaching award within the finance department; in 2004, he earned the best teaching award in the Business School; in 2005, he was elected as the best teacher within all departments and the schools of the University and received the Presidential Teaching Excellence Award. He published in prestigious academic journals (Journal of Monetary Economics, Management Science, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Business Economic and Statistics). He has more than 30 academic publications.
In 2007, he earned a tenured position in US. In 2010, he was listed within top 20 professors out of more than 1 million professors in US, UK, Canada and Scotland. More than 10 million student evaluations are used for the rankings.
In 2012, he joined Sabanci University as a chair professor of finance. As of 2014, in addition to his academic role, he is holding a founding chairman position of the Center of Excellence in Finance at Sabanci University.
Professor Demirtas, is also a founding board member of the first Financial Literacy Association of Turkey (FODER), and was a senior consultant of Young Businessmen Association of Turkey (TUGIAD), Association of Automotive Parts & Components Manufacturers (TAYSAD), Turkish Natural Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK), as well as several corporations. In a two year period between 2014 and 2015, he gave more than 70 Keynote Speeches to local and international corporations.
Associate Professor Atılgan received his BA in Management from Boğaziçi University in 2003, his MS in Finance from University of Rochester in 2005 and his PhD in Finance from City University of New York in 2010. In the same year, he joined Sabanci University School of Management as an Assistant Professor. In 2015, he earned the tittle of Associate professor.
Professor Atılgan’s research interests include determinants of equity returns, derivative markets, fixed-income instruments and asset pricing in emerging markets. His research has been published in prestigious academic journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and Journal of Business & Economic Statistics among others. He has also co-authored a book on risks and returns of investing in hedge funds published by Academic Press (Elsevier).
Professor Atılgan teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on investments, portfolio theory, fixed-income analytics, financial management and corporate valuation. He is also a CFA charterholder.
